This home in Accokeek, Maryland was suffering from extremely drafty rooms. During the winter months, this meant cold rooms and high utility bills. The homeowner didn't know what they could do to fix this problem... but Complete Home Solutions did.
We started out by giving a Home Energy Audit. With this, we could pin point where the problem areas in the house were. The attic was our biggest concern. There was little to no insulation, and the insulation that was there was ratty and torn apart (essentially useless). So, we tore out any of the old insulation, air sealed any of the ductwork that was up there, and installed TruSoft Cellulose insulation. It's amazing how almost immediately the homeowner could feel the difference. You may not ever go up to your attic, but trust us, what's up there matters!
Homes that have insufficient insulation like this one in Laurel, Maryland often suffer from cold drafts and uncomfortable temperatures in the home. The lack of attic insulation removes the buffer from the outside temperatures that the attic space is exposed to and the regulated temperatures in the home. Our Production Team removed the existing attic insulation and used blow in cellulose insulation to make the insulation levels meet the Dr. Energy Saver recommended levels.
Moriah called Complete Home Solutions with concerns about the colder temperatures in the 2nd floor bedrooms of her Chesapeake Beach, MD home. Our Home Comfort Specialist conducted a full energy audit to determine not only what was causing their uncomfortable temperatures, but any other efficiency improvements that could be made to the home to make the homeowner more comfortable and save them money on their monthly utility bill. One big factor in the colder 2nd floor temperatures was the lack of insulation in the attic of the home. With older cellulose insulation that was not high enough to cover the floor joist, it allowed the colder winter air in the attic to make its way into the home.
On the day of the install our Home Comfort Technicians air sealed any cracks that could be allowing air to move between the attic and the rest of the home before laying down a new layer of blown in cellulose. This process traps the cold air in the attic and traps the warmer air where it belongs, in your home.
The homeowner is now resting in comfort and has noticed a drop in their monthly utility bill from this project along with other small improvements our Specialist recommended during the Energy Audit.
Nathaniel called Complete Home Solutions for one of our Home Energy Audits after he had noticed the temperature in the second floor was much different than the temperature on the first floor. The Audit examines multiple factors of your home to determine ways you could keep it more comfortable, as well as help it run more efficiently. Following the audit, our Home Comfort Specialist determined that a big cause of the uncomfortable upstairs temperatures was due to the condition of the attic. On the day of the installation, our Home Comfort Technicians worked their magic once again, air sealing any cracks in the attic floor, and around any recessed light that would be allowing heat to escape and cold air to make its way in. They then blew in a new layer of Cellulose insulation that would create a barrier in the attic that traps the warm air where it belongs, in the home, not the attic.
