This homeowner had just had some energy efficiency improvements done - new windows, new door, new HVAC unit etc. She thought that there would be a massive difference in her energy use after getting these things done, but was shocked to find that there really wasn't that big of a difference! We sent out one of our Home Comfort Experts to do an analysis of the house and figure out where this homeowner was losing energy. He found that while she was making those other energy efficiency upgrades she had neglected to treat one of the most important areas in her house...the attic! The attic's air sealing and insulation  levels (which is now recommended to reach at least R-49) had never been upgraded. After explaining this to the homeowner, she had us go ahead and make those improvements. She was more than pleased at how much energy her home was using by the time we were done!

As southern Maryland got deeper into winter, this homeowner continued to notice that the second floor of his home was much colder than the first floor. Following a call to one of our Home Comfort Specialist, it was determined that a lot of the warmer air in the home, was escaping through cracks and insufficient insulation in the attic, and on the day of the job our Home Comfort Technicians took care of the rest. They began by removing the old insulation out of the homes attic, this step was followed by air sealing any crack, seams, and light fixtures with fire block spray foam. Next our crew installed baffles along the eaves of the home, this ensures that the attic has the proper air ventilation throughout the attic. Allison called Complete Home Solutions for one of our Home Energy Audits after she had noticed the temperature in the second floor was much different than the temperature on the first floor. The Audit examines multiple factors of your home to determine ways you could keep it more comfortable, as well as help it run more efficiently. Following the audit, our Home Comfort Specialist determined that a big cause of the uncomfortable upstairs temperatures was due to the condition of the attic. On the day of the installation, our Home Comfort Technicians worked their magic once again, air sealing any cracks in the attic floor, and around any recessed light that would be allowing heat to escape and cold air to make its way in. They then blew in a new layer of Cellulose insulation that would create a barrier in the attic that traps the warm air where it belongs, in the home, not the attic.

Reginal called Complete Home Solutions to discuss ways to make her home more efficient and comfortable. Following a Home Energy Audit, conducted by one of our trained Home Comfort Specialist, it was determined that the condition of her homes attic insulation could be resulting gin comfort issues, and was certainly costing her money on her utility bills each month. Our recommendation to address this problem was to properly vent, seal, and insulate the attic. On the day of the project our Home Comfort Technicians got to started by pulling back the existing insulation and properly air sealing the top plates, outlets, and recessed lights. This process is done using are fire block spray foam which creates and solid barrier when applied to a surface, keeping the conditioned air in your home from escaping. The next step was installing baffles along the eaves of the roof. the baffles ensure proper air flow into the attic, while also allowing our crew to blow in the proper amount of insulation throughout the entire attic.. The final step is to blow in our stabilized cellulose insulation to ensure there is 16in of insulation throughout the attic. 

Following these steps, Reginal noticed an immediate difference in comfort throughout the second floor of her home, and can't wait to see how it effects her energy bills each month.

Wael called in and requested an estimate for some work to be done in his attic. He was suspecting that there were some drafts in his upstairs area and after Ben, our Home Comfort Specialist, checked it out and confirmed his suspicions, gave Wael an estimate for the work. After he considered a couple other estimates from other companies, he concluded that we had the best offer and agreed to use Complete Home Solutions to fix his uncomfortable home! We sent out our Home Comfort Technicians, Alex, Carlos, and Joe to prep the attic by air sealing the top plates before we install new insulation in the attic. Most air leakage into the attic comes from top plates within the attic, so blocking them should solve the draft within the upstairs area. After the attic is prepped, the insulation truck comes and installs new blown-in cellulose insulation. 

Wael has reported that his issue has been resolved and his upstairs area feels much more comfortable!
