This homeowner in Dunkirk, MD called Complete Home Solutions with concerns about the colder temperatures in the 2nd floor bedrooms of their home. Our Home Comfort Specialist conducted a full energy audit to determine not only what was causing their uncomfortable temperatures, but any other efficiency improvements that could be made to the home to make the homeowner more comfortable and save them money on their monthly utility bill. One big factor in the colder 2nd floor temperatures was the condition of the older fiberglass and cellulose insulation in the homes attic. With older cellulose insulation that was barely high enough to cover the floor joist, it allowed the colder winter air in the attic to make its way into the home.
On the day of the install our Home Comfort Technicians air sealed any cracks that could be allowing air to move between the attic and the rest of the home before laying down a new layer of blown in cellulose. This process traps the cold air in the attic and traps the warmer air where it belongs, in your home.
The homeowner is now resting in comfort and has noticed a drop in their monthly utility bill from this project along with other small improvements our Specialist recommended during the Energy Audit.

Brenda called Complete Home solutions after another year of uncomfortable conditions in her Dunkirk, MD home. In the winter months, she struggles to keep it warm, and in the hot summer months, the upstairs is unbearable. Following a Home Energy Audit, conducted by one of our trained Home Comfort Specialist, it was determined that the condition of the home's attic was the main culprit in the home's uncomfortable home. On the day of the job, our Home Comfort Technicians began air sealing the attic with fire block spray foam. The spray foam is applied to our recessed light covers, top plates, and any outlets in the attic to ensure that the air you pay to heat or cool stays in the living space of your home. The next step in this attic was to vent the bath fans out through the roof. If your fans are not vented properly, it can create moisture issues in your attic. The final step of this attic project was to blow in new Cellulose insulation, which creates a 16 inch barrier between the attic condition and the rest of your home. As you can see in this picture, we install rulers throughout the attic to show our customers just how much of a difference our insulation makes. Brenda noticed an immediate difference, even in mild temperatures, and can't wait to see how her house performs in the hot and humid summer months ahead.

These homeowners didn't understand why their house always felt so uncomfortable even though they knew they had insulation in their attic. To get a better understanding of their house and what they could do to fix it, they asked CHS to come out and perform a home energy audit.
One of the things that our home comfort specialist noticed right away was the discoloration of the insulation in the attic. What this told him was that there was nothing stopping air from flowing in and out of the attic (i.e. no air sealing). CHS went ahead and air sealed the attic and also applied cellulose insulation. The end result is a set of customers who are very comfortable in their home.
