This house in Glen Burnie, Maryland suffered from uncomfortable temperatures and high energy bills. Our Auditor performed a home energy audit to determine the source of the problems. They determined that the cause was air leakage and insufficient insulation in the attic.
Our Production Team installed blow in cellulose insulation and air sealing to prevent further air leaking and to better insulate the home. This home is now much more comfortable and energy effiecient.
This home in Glen Burnie was suffering from cold drafty floors and rooms in the winter that were very uncomfortable while they were paying high bills to heat their home. The homeowner hired Complete Home Solutions to find out why their home was so cold and to provide solutions to these problems. After completion of an Energy Audit, our Home Comfort Specialist found that the attic had significant leaks and old insulation that wasn't keeping the warm air in. Our Production Crew went in and removed all of the old fiberglass insulation and then air sealed all the top plates and sealed around all the duct work. After everything was sealed up our crews added Cellulose Insulation on top to make sure the insulation had a proper R-Value to keep all the warm air in and circulating in the home!
It made an amazing difference to this family, the home is much more comfortable and energy efficient and their quality of life enhanced!
What do you need to create a thermal barrier in your attic? Generally, air sealing and insulation. What happens if you don't have a thermal barrier in your attic? Ask this customer. Humid, hot summers and freezing, cold winters. Having to constantly adjust the AC/Heat (while throwing money out the window). He was very annoyed with his home's comfort (or lack there of).
He found a company who he knew could fix this problem for him...Complete Home Solutions. We certainly lived up to those expectations. We had to move the old insulation in the attic to see what areas needed to be sealed in the attic and then blew in closed-cell cellulose insulation.
After hearing about the BGE Home Energy Audit program, Rebecca called Complete Home Solutions to give her home a full evaluation. After looking over the whole house including several key systems, our Home Comfort Specialist recommended air sealing the attic and making sure the insulation was up to code. On the day of the job, our Home Comfort Technicians began air sealing the attic with fire block spray foam. The spray foam is applied to our recessed light covers, top plates, and any outlets in the attic to ensure that the air you pay to heat or cool stays in the living space of your home. The next step in this attic was to vent the bath fans out through the roof. If your fans are not vented properly, it can create moisture issues in your attic. The final step of this attic project was to blow in new Cellulose insulation, which creates a 16 inch barrier between the attic condition and the rest of your home. As you can see in this picture, we install rulers throughout the attic to show our customers just how much of a difference our insulation makes. Rebecca noticed an immediate difference, even in mild temperatures, and can't wait to see how her house performs in the future.
