Crawl spaces like this one are not protected against moisture that can ruin the insulation. Sagging insulation makes a home less energy efficient and allows outside air into the home. During the spring this means that your home becomes cold at night and hot during the day. To solve this problem Complete Home Solutions suggests that the crawl space be sealed from the Earth and the insulation be reinstalled. This will keep the home more energy efficient.
Not only was the insulation in the crawl space insufficient. it was installed improperly or upside down! In conjunction with an ineffective vapor, the entire crawl space was contaminated with organic growth. Allowing unhealthy air to penetrate into the home.
We removed the contaminated insulation and installed a new airtight barrier to help prevent groundwater infiltration. After properly treating the crawl space, new insulation was installed to create a thermal barrier to help keep the floor above more comfortable.
The homeowners of this house in La Plata, MD had suffered from cold floors all winter and uncomfortable temperatures in the home. The homeowners called Complete Home Solutions to find the sourse of the problems. Our Auditor went to the home in La Plata and determined that the source of the problem was moisture in the crawl space that was causing the insulation to sag away from the floor and become ineffective. Our Production Team went into the home and sealed the crawl space. They used plastic to seal the floor to prevent moisture from seeping into the crawl space and removed the old insulation and replaced it before sealing the insulation off seperate from the floor to keep the air from the home from seeping through any cracks in the floor or gaps in the insulation.
This homeowner from Glenn Dale, Maryland had some weatherization work done in her crawl space some time ago. However, she didn't get everything that she wanted done. There was foam board insulation in the ceiling, but that was it. She asked us to come out and do a little more work for her.
We found that the old vapor barrier that was down there was basically in shambles. So, our main project was to install a new vapor barrier. When we did this, we made sure to run the barrier up the walls and seal it air tight. The homeowner was extremely satisfied with our work and looks forward to calling us for her next project.
This homeowner called us because he was concerned about the condition in his crawl space. He was experiencing musty odors in humid weather and extreme temperature variations through the 1st floor of his home. Our Home Comfort Specialist went out to take a look and found standing water in some areas from recent rains, moisture saturated insulation that had begun to deteriorate and fall. Essentially the unhealthy conditions in his crawl space were affecting the indoor air quality in his home.
Our Home Comfort Specialist recommended crawl space encapsulation, which removed the existing damaged insulation and now keeps the moisture out of the crawlspace. The result is a home that not only smells better, but the homeowner is also breathing healthier air as a result of his recent improvements. The homeowner is extremely happy with the results and is living more comfortably!
