After moving into her home in Deale, MD last year, Karen had a Home Energy Audit conducted by Complete Home Solutions to determine how energy efficient the house was. Following the Audit, our Home Comfort Specialist found several areas of the home that could be enhanced to improve home efficiency and home comfort. Carrie followed all of the recommendations and began to chip away at each project. Our crew began by first fully encapsulating her crawl space. They then installed a new mini-split HVAC system, and the final improvement was to properly air seal and insulate the attic. As you can see above the attic had old fiberglass batt insulation that was well below current standards to keep the home properly insulated. To fix the comfort issues our crew began by pulling back the old insulation and air sealing any recessed light covers, top plates, and cracks in the drywall then blew in a fresh layer of cellulose insulation to give this home a proper 16 inches of insulation. By air sealing it prevents any conditioned air from escaping the living space of your home, and adding insulation creates a 16in barrier between the attic temperature and the rest of your home.
Karen's home has now been properly insulated and sealed from top to bottom. These steps will help keep her home comfortable all year round, and also help her HVAC system run less, saving money on monthly utility bills.

This homeowner had some weatherization work done in their attic a few years ago, but the work wasn't carried out to its fullest potential. They had their ducts covered up (which is good) and part of the attic ceiling, but that isn't going to make this house as energy efficient as it could be. We went ahead and finished air sealing (mainly by applying polysio foam board) and blew in cellulose insulation. Now we can confidently say that this attic is efficient and will provide for a much more comfortable home.
Mike's Mechanicsville, MD home was experiencing comfort issues throughout the first floor. In the winter the floors would be cold, impacting the overall temperature of the first floor. And in the summer it seemed to constantly be damp and humid. William took the right first step by calling Complete Home Solutions to assess the problem. Upon arrival, our trained Home Comfort Specialist began his analysis in the crawl space of the home, where he discovered several key indicators of William's uncomfortable first floor. With cracks along the exterior walls of the crawl space as well as insulation that was in pretty rough shape, it was easy to determine that this was the source of the comfort problems.
On the day of the installation, our crew began by removing all of the old batt insulation from the floor joist above, before laying down our 20mill CleanSpace vapor barrier, which when bolted to the wall creates a seal on the ground of the crawls space, making sure moisture and critters can not make their way in from below. They then sprayed the area with our 2 part closed cell spray foam insulation to all of the exterior walls. The final step to this encapsulation was to install a dehumidifier which was set to a consistent 50-55% humidity. William noticed an immediate difference in the floor temperature of his home and can't wait to see the difference as the weather outside begins to change.

Nick heard from a friend about efficiency rebates he could receive from his utility company for taking steps to improve areas and systems around his home. After researching the program, he called Complete Home Solutions, who is a preferred Contractor for his utility company, to conduct the assessment on his home. After a full Home Energy Audit was completed by one of our Home Comfort Specialist, it was determined that the insulation levels in Nick's house could also be improved to help with comfort and efficiency. On the day of the job, our Home Comfort Technicians began air sealing the attic with fire block spray foam. The spray foam is applied to our recessed light covers, top plates, and any outlets in the attic to ensure that the air you pay to heat or cool stays in the living space of your home. The next step in this attic was to vent the bath fans out through the roof. If your fans are not vented properly, it can create moisture issues in your attic. The final step of this attic project was to blow in new Cellulose insulation, which creates a 16 inch barrier between the attic condition and the rest of your home. As you can see in this picture, we install rulers throughout the attic to show our customers just how much of a difference our insulation makes.
