This client of ours was in the process of purchasing a house in Silver Spring and wanted to make a few changes before he moved in. He wanted to make sure that his house was going to be energy efficient. He did his research and found a company that had great experience and reviews...Complete Home Solutions. He had us come out and give him the best solutions for his new home.
Our home comfort specialist found that air sealing and insulating the attic would be the most effective way to reach this client's needs. We air sealed any open cavities (that means rim and band joists, ceiling fixture penetrations, top plates, etc) and blew in enough cellulose insulation to bring levels up to R-49. This new homeowner will be moving into a house that is both energy efficient and comfortable.
This homeowner had two attics in her home. Neither of them were air sealed or properly insulated. The one pictured above had been constructed with the intention of using it as a storage area, but the owner wasn't really getting much use out of it. Instead, they had a big open space that was wasting a lot of energy and causing a lot of discomfort throughout the house.
We went through and air sealed both attic areas (using mainly caulk and polysio foam board) to stop air from leaking in and out of the house. We then blew in closed cell cellulose insulation (bringing both attic up to 14" -- the recommended standard for our climate zone). This home has become much more comfortable since CHS came out.
Homes that lack in attic insulation can have issues with maintaining a comfortable temperature throughout the house. The original attic insulation in this DC home allowed the home's air to leak into the attic and escape through the roof due to insufficient attic insulation. By removing the previous inuslation and replacing it with Dr. Energy Saver recommended levels creates a buffer between the home's air temperature and the outside air temperature. This makes the home more energy efficient and reduces the homeowners energy bill.
This homeowner living in Nanjemoy, Maryland had a problem with his energy bills... they were too high! He needed to know what he could do to bring them down, so he called Complete Home Solutions.
We took a look up in his attic and told him right then and there that he didn't have enough air sealing or insulation. These are good things, because those are problems we can fix. We applied some polysio foam board (which you can't see in the picture because it's under the insulation), some caulking, and blew in our cellulose insulation. Good bye high energy bills and hello home comfort!
This home in Bryans Road, Maryland was really unprepared for the cooler weather that we were going to get this winter. The homeowner and his family were annoyed by the constant cold drafts that they kept feeling throughout the house. Complete Home Solutions was able to provide this family with solutions that would keep them warm.
The biggest issue we found with this house was the attic. When you don't have air sealing and you don't have enough good insulation, you are basically allowing for your warm air to escape up and out through your attic. If we can stop that, we can give you a much more comfortable home.
