Sara's basement was constantly uncomfortable regardless of how warm or cool she kept her central air. After calling Complete Home Solutions, our Home Comfort Specialist was able to discover a culprit behind the drop ceiling. The rim joist, where the main level of the home meets the basement was uninsulated. This would cause the outside temperatures to have a clear path into leak into the home. Our recommendation was our 2 part closed cell spray foam which after prayed creates a hard barrier between internal and external conditions.

Sara received a Home Energy Audit from Complete Home Solutions to determine areas in her La Plata, MD home that could be costing her money and comfort. After the complete review of the home by one of our trained Home Comfort Specialists, there were several recommendations including insulating the rim joist in the basement, upgrading the hot water heater, and improving the attic insulation levels. To make the biggest impact on her home, she decided to attack the basement and attic first. On the day our crew began work on the attic they began by pulling back the existing insulation to ensure the area was properly air sealed. Air sealing ensures that there are no seams or cracks around top plates, recessed lights, or outlets that could allow conditioned air to rise and escape from the living area of your home. The next step was building an attic hatch damn at the entrance to the attic. This process allows our crew to blow insulation as close to your attic hatch as possible while also making the entryway clean if you have to get into your attic. The final step is to add a new blanket of Cellulose insulation to the attic to ensure 16 inches of insulation all the way around the attic.
These improvements to the attic will help the efficiency of her home helping her HVAC system run less frequently, and also help with comfort throughout the home by keeping the conditioned air in the living space of the home and creating a proper barrier between the living space and attic temperatures.

Peter's crawl space was nothing short of nasty. It was not only causing comfort issues throughout the first floor of his home but also in danger of causing major issues to the structure of the house due to standing water and moisture throughout the space. following an examination from one of our Home Comfort Specialists, it was easy to determine that a full crawl space encapsulation was needed. On the day of the installation, our Home Comfort Technicians began by removing all of the old batt insulation from the floor joist above, before laying down our 20mill CleanSpace vapor barrier, which when bolted to the wall creates a seal on the ground of the crawls space, making sure moisture and critters can not make their way in from below. They then sprayed the area with our 2 part closed cell spray foam insulation on all of the exterior walls. The final step to this encapsulation was to install a dehumidifier which was set to a consistent 50-55% humidity. Peter noticed an immediate difference in the floor temperature of his home and can't wait to see the difference as the weather outside begins to change.
