Crawl Space Encapsulation in Deale, MD
Challenge
Without knowing the cause, Jennifer had been dealing with asthma problems as well as constant allergy issue. her in Deale, MD was in a low lying area in which water was a constant problem. after several attempts to purify the air in the living space of her home she turned to Complete Home Solutions.
Solution
Following a call to Complete Home Solutions, one of our trained Home Comfort Specialist did a top down analysis of the home and was able to pinpoint an area that she had not looked at as a possible culprit, the crawl space. Many people are not aware that the crawl space of you home is where 50% of you home air comes from. This can lead too the nasty elements below your home severely impacting the air your breathing in.
During the encapsulation, our crew goes through a 4 step process to properly assess the problem:
Step 1 is controlling the ground water and making sure there is no water underneath your vapor barrier. For this we use are smart drain around the perimeter of the crawl space which drains into one of our Smart Sump Sump Pumps.
Step 2 is isolating the home from the earth to tackle this we use our 20mm thick CleanSpace vapor barrier. This heavy duty, 20mm vapor barrier will protect against water vapor and odors seeping into your crawl space, and protect your home from elements of the earth.
Step 3 is sealing the outside air. In the humid areas we service we apply a high density, closed cell, 2 part spray foam, directly to your rim joist and foundation wall. This insulates and air seals your crawl space at the same time. Giving you our maintenance free insulation application.
Step 4 is controlling the environment. Most encapsulated crawl spaces need and can benefit from dehumidification to dry and circulate the crawl space air. In most cases, we recommend an E070 Aprilaire dehumidifier. Our goal is to maintain a humidity level between 50-55%, This will prevent any future organic growth, maintain air quality and home comfort.
This process will make a huge difference in the health of not only your crawl space, but your home.
