Here in Harmans, Maryland we have a homeowner who was concerned about her high energy bills. Rather than making any assumptions about the why, she decided to call up a professional to give her a home energy audit.

Complete Home Solutions found that a major quality that this house was lacking was air sealing. We fixed that by installing weatherstripping throughout her house and air sealing her attic. We also found that the old batt insulation in the attic was no longer working effectively. We replaced it with blown-in cellulose insulation. Now we have a much more energy efficient house with lower utility costs.

Anne Arundel County, MD Crawl Space Insulation

Crawl spaces tend to soak up the natural cold or heat around your home and transfers it into the air in your crawl space. Job Stories From Anne Arundel County, MD
No More Hotels!

The owner of this 1960's waterfront home suffered with extremely hot rooms during the summer months and extremely cold rooms during the winter.  In fact, the home was so uncomfortable that family visiting this home were forced to stay in local hotels.

Complete Home Solutions did an energy audit of the home and recommended measures to make the home more energy efficient and comfortable.  Air leaks were sealed, duct work was sealed or replaced and insulation installed.

As a result, the house is significantly more comfortable to live in. Visiting family members no longer need to reserve hotel rooms.

This project was extremely satisfying by making the homeowner more comfortable and also resulted in maximizing quality family time.

Utility Bills Drop in Annapolis, Maryland!

Mark C. is a single dad living in the Annapolis, Maryland area. His favorite thing to do is to spend time with his son. He called Complete Home Solutions when he realized that his energy bills were way too high (not good when you're trying to start up your son's college fund). So, we came out, performed a home energy audit, and made some solid suggestions to help with his problem.

We recommended for him to air seal his recessed light fixtures, insulate the knee-wall areas in his attic, install 16" O.C. attic soffit baffles, insulate with 4" of polyiso foam board, install 8" of TruSoft cellulose, and properly weather-strip exterior doors. What all of this does is, essentially, stop excessive air leakage. Attic openings (which is the major area that we worked on) are very large areas that allow both air infiltration and serve as a mjor thermal bypass. By making these home upgrades we have created a comfortable home that can actually hold heat. No more cold drafts or constantly bumping the thermostat up (or down).

After a little while, we came back to Mark's house to do some more work in the crawl space. We were ecstatic to hear about all the positive things that our services from the last time had done for him. Besides the fact that him and his son were actually comfortable living in their home, Mark's utility bills were no longer breaking the bank! We found out that, since the work had been done, just about all of his bills were under $100 (his highest one being $130). Now Mark can spend time with his son and save up for college without worrying about his utility bills. We at Complete Home Solutions are proud for being able to help this Maryland family!

Old House Gets New Air Sealing in Odenton, MD

This homeowner living in Odenton, Maryland lives in a very old house – over 100 years old! Because the house is so old, she has had to do all different kinds of repairs over the years. One that she had never invested in was air sealing. Luckily, she found out about Complete Home Solutions through her utility company, PEPCO. We knew what to do to get this house operating efficiently. We went ahead and air sealed any attic cavities or penetrations (with caulk, polysio foam board, and spray foam), applied weather-stripping to exterior doors, and air sealed the cantilever (which connects to the interior floor system). Along with a few other upgrades, these installations were able to make a huge difference for the homeowner. She was extremely happy with the work that we did and found us to be the best investment that she has ever made for her house. We love seeing happy customers and just added another one to the list!

Attic Weatherization Protects Linthicum Heights House From Heat

This customer of ours has two grandchildren that live with her. They both have bedrooms upstairs and when summer comes around it becomes unbearably hot. She was concerned about how they would make it through another summer (especially after last summer which was one of the hottest recorded in 50 years). She and her husband were thinking about putting more vents in their bedrooms, but consulted Complete Home Solutions before moving forward.

We explained to them how heat works in a home. In the summertime, your attic becomes astronomically hot (because it's trapping all of that heat inside). Since heat moves from "hotter" to "cooler" that hot air isn't traveling outside of the house, it's moving to the next coolest spot, which is your upstairs living area. Adding more vents is not a permanent solution to this problem at all; you're still going to have to run your AC unit harder to try and cool down that area. Instead, what we can do is air seal and insulate the attic. A properly treated attic will create a "thermal barrier" and protect your house from summer's sweltering heat (it will also help to retain heat in the wintertime).

We convinced this customer to get the work done and they were thrilled with the result. They already started to notice the consistency of temperature throughout the house. Now they won't have to worry about their grandchildren and will benefit from much lower utility bills too!

Replace Attic Insulation in Severna Park House

This customer had a really awful rodent problem. They were nesting and breeding in her attic. After a few months of struggling with it, she finally called an exterminator to fix the situation. So, the mice were gone, but they had eaten through and damaged a lot of the insulation that was up there. She called us at Complete Home Solutions to fix her attic back up.

We determined that all of that insulation had to go. Not only was is it now ineffective, but it was unhealthy. Additionally, we found that there was no air sealing underneath the insulation, meaning that that unhealthy air was free to flow into the family's breathing space. So, we removed the old insulation, air sealed the attic, and installed new blown in cellulose insulation.

This home is now rat free and healthy! We were extremely happy to have helped make this customer's home comfortable again.

Attic Treatment in Millersville, MD

This client in Millersville, Maryland was worried about how their house was going to hold up this summer. They remembered last summer was excruciatingly hot and they could not get their house to cool down. This year, they wanted to be able to escape the heat, so they called up Complete Home Solutions to see what we could do.

We gave her an energy audit to find out where her big problem areas were. We found the attic to be a major issue. There was hardly any insulation, no air sealing, and there were ducts left completely uncovered. The attic itself is bad enough because it allows for all of this hot air to leak out into the house during the summer when it gets hot. The ducts are even worse because they get HOT up in that attic and all of that cold air that you're trying to pump through your house heats up as it passes through. So, not only is your house not staying cool, but you're wasting money trying to cool it down.

We do a few things to help a problem like this. First, we want to treat the ducts. We did this by covering them with closed cell cellulose spray foam. We then constructed an insulation dam around it so that the homeowner can still get to them if they need to. Next, we want to air seal the attic itself. We sealed off any nooks and crannies in the attic with foam board and caulk. Finally, we applied cellulose insulation. Now our client can look forward to a cool, relaxing summer and not worry about the blasting heat.

Cellulose Insulation in Edgewater, MD

We met these Edgewater, MD homeowners at a local Green Expo event where they expressed their priorities to insulate the home better and make the home more comfortable.  The front of the home gets full sun all year round and this heats up the home considerably and they felt that their home was poorly insulated.  Our home comfort specialist met with the homeowners and recommended work to help alleviate the extreme heat.  The work performed in this home made a positive impact right away.  No longer is the top floor too hot for the family to sleep!  The upstairs is noticeably cooler even after several days when temperatures have hit the mid-90's.  Our crews installed cellulose insulation and sealed the attic properly to make this family more comfortable.   It is very rewarding for our team to make a positive impact in the comfort of their home especially with summer just under way - and many more hot (but no longer sleepless) nights to come!

We Fixed Sweaty Ductwork!

A homeowner in Crofton, Maryland called us to help with a number of concerns.  They moved into the home less than a year ago and noticed that condensation was building up on the ductwork and causing damage to the ceiling of their basement. Our home comfort specialist diagnosed the problem causing this to occur.  The kitchen bumpout was not property insulated and the uninsulated ductwork was causing condensation to accumulate.  Our home comfort specialist recommended insulating the accessible ductwork in the ceiling of the basement and properly treating the bump out with SilverGlo foam board and closed cell spray foam.  As you can see by the pictures - it's not easy work for our crews.  They did an incredible job air sealing this cantilever and protecting the ductwork for the hot summer weather on the way.  The homeowner is relieved to have this taken care of and no longer worried about further drywall damage in their basement.  The homeowner was very happy to have this work done quickly and efficiently with the temperatures heating up and has scheduled another service with our company to conduct a full comprehensive energy audit to check out the rest of their home!

Air Seal Crawl Space in Riva, MD

The homeowner in Riva, MD had been living in their house for a good while and over the past couple of years began to notice a really musty smell permeating through the house (specifically on the first floor). After some investigating, they realized that it was coming from their crawl space. They wanted to get this fixed and get that funky smell out of their house, so they called up Complete Home Solutions to see what we could do.

Fortunately, CHS specializes in fixing crawl spaces just like this one. We know how important this is to providing a comfortable and healthy living area (since you breathe in 40-60% of your crawl's air). We sealed up the walls, rim joists, and hatch using a combination of SilverGlo foam board and spray foam insulation. We also applied a vapor barrier along the floor and up the walls.

After performing these measures, we've since checked in with these clients and we are happy to say that they've already noticed that the musty smell from before is gone! They can enjoy a healthy, happy, and comfortable home.

Crawl Space Encapsulation in Churchton, MD

This homeowner had an addition built onto her house about 34 years ago. The addition created a rather large crawl space underneath the house that was inadequately insulated. In recent years past, she's noticed quite a bit of moisture in the addition (to the point where her carpet was actually getting wet). Of course her biggest fear was what problems this much moisture can cause (such as mold, mildew, health and structural problems).

She came across Complete Home Solutions while searching for companies online and decided to call us based on the fact that we had great reviews and were local. After having our Home Comfort Specialist out to the home to discuss solutions for her moisture control issue, she was sold.

Encapsulating the crawl space was the solution for this homeowner. This involved our crew removing the existing BATT insulation (which was extremely run down and falling out of place), installing  a 20 mil vapor barrier, and applying spray foam insulation (which also air seals) to the crawl walls and crevices. After 34 years, this addition has been transformed into a livable, comfortable space!

Crawl Space encapsulation

This project was one of many crawl spce projects Complete Home Solutions take on each month. This crawl space had insulation that was no longer attached to the beams under the house along with exposed crawl space vents that we open and exposing the house to warm tempuratures in the summer that were rising into the house and cold tempuratures cooling the house in the winter.

Our expert insulation team began the project by removing insulation that was no longer working properly due to the large amount of humdity that was trapped in the crawl space. Once the crawl was cleaned propertly the area was fully encapsulated with spray foam insulation and vapor barrier making this crawl a fully conditioned area that was now making the homeowner more comfortable.

Thomas had a home in Bladensburg, MD that had no insulation in the attic, which was causing uncomfortable temperatures in the second floor of his home. The final step of the encapsulation was to install an Aprilaire dehumidifier which regulated the humidity to a consistently comfortable 50-55% humidity.

Tracy noticed an immediate difference in the temperature of her floors, and with no standing water in the crawl space, she is noticing a much fresher smelling first floor of her home.

Attic Insulation in Annapolis, MD

Nancy recently noticed that her energy bills were getting higher and higher, even during the periods of the year when she had seen drops in the past.  To get some answers she called Complete Home Solutions for a Home Energy Audit. Our Home Comfort Specialist conducted the audit and noticed that her ductwork in the attic of the home was not treated, and she had old batt insulation in the attic as well. These two problems were a red flag that needed to be addressed. With no insulation around the ductwork, her HVAC system was working overtime to keep the house filled with comfortable air. This problem occurs when air leaks out of your ductwork and doesn't make it efficiently into your vents, as well as causing air to condensate during the summer months.

The old insulation in the attic was covering up problems as well. The attic had not been air sealed which allows the conditioned air to escape the living area and exit the home through the attic.

On the day of the installation, our Home Comfort Technicians removed the old batt insulation before using our 2 part closed cell spray foam to seal the ductwork. They then air sealed any top plates recessed lights, and outlet covers to prevent air from escaping the home. The final step was to blow in new Cellulose insulation in the attic to properly insulate the area to current standards.

Nancy noticed improvement immediately in her monthly utility bill and is eager to see how much her energy usage drops for years to come.

A/C Replacement in Elkridge, MD

Daniel called Complete Home Solutions when he noticed as the weather began warm up, noticing that his A/C unit seemed to be running constantly to keep the home near a comfortable temperature. Following an Inspection from one of our trained HVAC Technicians, Daniel was presented with two options; the first was to replace a few aging parts on the system, and the second was a full system replacement. After weighing the age of the system, the cost of the repairs, and the replacement cost, Daniel decided that it was time for a completely new unit. Our Install team was able to remove the old system and install the new system just a week later and got the job done in one day.

With his new A/C unit installed, Daniel noticed a substantial drop in the amount the new system was running and noticed the overall temperature of his home was more comfortable than it had been in years.

Crawl Space Encapsulation in Shady Side, MD

Jack called Complete Home Solutions to address the condition of his home's crawl space. During the spring months, he had constant moisture and humidity issues, and in the winter months, he struggled to regulate the temperature of the first floor of the home. Following an inspection by one of our trained Home Comfort Specialists a recommendation was made to properly encapsulate the space. On installation day after removing all of the old vapor barrier and insulation from the crawl space, our Home Comfort Technicians installed a SmartSump sump pump to remove any standing water underneath the home. Next, we lay our Clean Space vapor barrier along the ground and bolt it to the crawl space walls. The vapor barrier we use is 20mil thick and prevents moisture, pests, or critters from entering your crawl space from below.  Our next step is to use a 2 part closed cell spray foam, which is applied to any vents and exterior walls in the crawl space. The spray foam prevents any exterior air from making its way into your crawl space and into your home. The final phase of this encapsulation is installing a dehumidifier to regulate the humidity to a consistent 50-55% humidity level.

Our crew was also surprised with a guest in this crawl space. We want to ensure any of this guys friends are in your crawl.

Water Heater Replacement in Deale, MD

Sharon called Complete Home Solutions when the water in her Davidsonville, MD home was no longer getting hot. Upon examination from one of our trained Home Comfort Specialist, it was a quick solution, she needed a new hot water heater. While replacing it with a standard electric water heater would have been the suggestion of most companies, our Specialist suggested 3 different routes; traditional electric, tankless, and heat pump water heater. Sharon decided on the most energy efficient choice, the heat pump water heater. By using the air in your home to heat the water, rather than electric coils, the heat pump water heater uses substantially less electricity, which in turn saves your money on your monthly electric bill.

Sharon could not be happier with the replacement, and even noticed a drop in her first utility bill since the change.

Attic Insulation in Edgewater, MD

Greg called Complete Home solutions after another year of uncomfortable conditions in his Edgewater, MD home. In the winter months, she struggles to keep it warm, and in the hot summer months, the upstairs is unbearable.  Following a Home Energy Audit, conducted by one of our trained Home Comfort Specialist, it was determined that the condition of the home's attic was the main culprit in the home's uncomfortable home. On the day of the job, our Home Comfort Technicians began air sealing the attic with fire block spray foam.  The spray foam is applied to our recessed light covers, top plates, and any outlets in the attic to ensure that the air you pay to heat or cool stays in the living space of your home. The next step in this attic was to vent the bath fans out through the roof. If your fans are not vented properly, it can create moisture issues in your attic. The final step of this attic project was to blow in new Cellulose insulation, which creates a 16 inch barrier between the attic condition and the rest of your home. As you can see in this picture, we install rulers throughout the attic to show our customers just how much of a difference our insulation makes. Eric noticed an immediate difference, even in mild temperatures, and can't wait to see how his house performs in the hot and humid summer months ahead.

Rim Joist Insulation in Annapolis, MD

This homeowner in Columbia, MD had noticed more and more that the bottom level of their home was more challenging to keep comfortable. Following a call to Complete Home Solutions our Home Comfort Specialist discovered there was older batt Insulation above their drop ceiling with no form of insulation in the rim joist along the exterior walls. The recommendation to fix this problem was to removed the insulation above the drop ceiling and apply spray foam in the rim joist along all the exterior walls creating a solid barrier which restricts the outside air from making its way inside, and on the day of the job our Home Comfort Technicians took care of the rest. This process allowed the homeowner to regulate the temperature in the lower level of their home much easier, creating a comfortable conditioned space.
