This homeowner in Columbia, MD had noticed more and more that the bottom level of their home was more challenging to keep comfortable. Following a call to Complete Home Solutions our Home Comfort Specialist discovered there was older batt Insulation above their drop ceiling with no form of insulation in the rim joist along the exterior walls. The recommendation to fix this problem was to removed the insulation above the drop ceiling and apply spray foam in the rim joist along all the exterior walls creating a solid barrier which restricts the outside air from making its way inside, and on the day of the job our Home Comfort Technicians took care of the rest. This process allowed the homeowner to regulate the temperature in the lower level of their home much easier, creating a comfortable conditioned space. 

Chris called Complete Home Solutions to address the condition of his home's crawl space. During the spring months, he had constant moisture and humidity issues, and in the winter months, he struggled to regulate the temperature of the first floor of the home. Following an inspection by one of our trained Home Comfort Specialists a recommendation was made to properly encapsulate the space. On installation day after removing all of the old vapor barrier and insulation from the crawl space, our Home Comfort Technicians installed a SmartSump sump pump to remove any standing water underneath the home. Next, we lay our Clean Space vapor barrier along the ground and bolt it to the crawl space walls. The vapor barrier we use is 20mil thick and prevents moisture, pests, or critters from entering your crawl space from below.  Our next step is to use a 2 part closed cell spray foam, which is applied to any vents and exterior walls in the crawl space. The spray foam prevents any exterior air from making its way into your crawl space and into your home. The final phase of this encapsulation is installing a dehumidifier to regulate the humidity to a consistent 50-55% humidity level.

Nancy recently noticed that her energy bills were getting higher and higher, even during the periods of the year when she had seen drops in the past.  To get some answers she called Complete Home Solutions for a Home Energy Audit. Our Home Comfort Specialist conducted the audit and noticed that her ductwork in the attic of the home was not treated, and she had old batt insulation in the attic as well. These two problems were a red flag that needed to be addressed. With no insulation around the ductwork, her HVAC system was working overtime to keep the house filled with comfortable air. The old insulation in the attic was covering up problems as well. The attic had not been air sealed which allows the conditioned air to escape the living area and exit the home through the attic. 

On the day of the installation, our Home Comfort Technicians removed the old batt insulation before using our 2 part closed cell spray foam to seal the ductwork. They then air sealed any top plates recessed lights, and outlet covers to prevent air from escaping the home. The final step was to blow in new Cellulose insulation in the attic to properly insulate the area to current standards.

Following a recommendation from a neighbor who had recently complete a crawl space encapsulation, Nancy called Complete Home Solutions to see what steps could be taken to improve the efficiency and comfort in her home. Our Home Comfort Specialist conducted a Home Energy Audit. One recommendation made was to replace the homes aging heat pump, which was not producing the air and heat that was needed to control the homes temperatures comfortably or efficiently. Mark C. is a single dad living in the Annapolis, Maryland area. His favorite thing to do is to spend time with his son. He called Complete Home Solutions when he realized that his energy bills were way too high (not good when you're trying to start up your son's college fund). So, we came out, performed a home energy audit, and made some solid suggestions to help with his problem.

We recommended for him to air seal his recessed light fixtures, insulate the knee-wall areas in his attic, install 16" O.C. attic soffit baffles, insulate with 4" of polyiso foam board, install 8" of TruSoft cellulose, and properly weather-strip exterior doors. What all of this does is, essentially, stop excessive air leakage. Attic openings (which is the major area that we worked on) are very large areas that allow both air infiltration and serve as a mjor thermal bypass. By making these home upgrades we have created a comfortable home that can actually hold heat. No more cold drafts or constantly bumping the thermostat up (or down).

After a little while, we came back to Mark's house to do some more work in the crawl space. We were ecstatic to hear about all the positive things that our services from the last time had done for him. Besides the fact that him and his son were actually comfortable living in their home, Mark's utility bills were no longer breaking the bank! We found out that, since the work had been done, just about all of his bills were under $100 (his highest one being $130).
