Attic Without Air Sealing
This attic had some insulation in it, but it was pretty old and there wasn't enough of it to be effective. There was no air sealing at all, which means that air was allowed to leak right out.
Attic With Cellulose Insulation
We went ahead and air sealed the attic by caulking any penetrations or openings that we could find. We then applied our blown in cellulose insulation to reach R-49. The air sealing and insulation will work together to provide an efficient, comfortable house.
Thermal Image of Attic Hatch
Here is an example of one of the thermal imaging pictures we took. As you can see, the attic area was letting a lot of air leak out.
Spray Foam Crawl Space Walls
Besides, the attic, we also found that the crawl space walls were not properly air sealed. Cold air usually travels in from the bottom of the house. Sealing and insulating these walls with spray foam will make a huge difference for this homeowner.
