Attic Insulation in Indian Head, MD
Challenge
This homeowner in Indian Head, MD was having trouble keeping the second floor of his home comfortable in the heat of the summer or the coldest days of winter. With a heating a cooling system that was still in good condition, the homeowner didn't know what his next step should be, until he called Complete Home Solutions.
Solution
Following a call to Complete Home Solutions, our Home Comfort Specialist was able to conduct a Home Energy Audit. to determine where the issues in the home were originating. Our Energy Audit checks every element of your home inside and out, with an in depth report of the any Heating and Cooling elements, Water heater, as well as a throughout inspection of your crawl space, attic, and basement.
Our Specialist was able to determine that the main cause of the uncomfortable home was due to a lack of insulation and improper air sealing in the homes attic. This was allowing A/C and heat to escape the living area of the home, while also allowing external air temperatures that are in the attic to make their way into the home.
On the day of the job, our Home Comfort Technicians began by removing the any existing insulation that was in the home of the attic. This allows our Technicians to have a clean work space to begin, as well as seeing any gaps in the attic floor that need to have fire block foam sprayed to air seal the attic from the house below. as well as air sealing any seams in he attic floor, our technicians also installed covers and and foamed around the several recessed lights. By doing this we not only prevent air form moving from the attic to the home, but also create a safe barrier between the recessed lights, which can get very hot, and the cellulose insulation we are about to install.
In this home before we blew in the new cellulose insulation, our crew first had to construct a HVAC dam around the air handler in the attic. The HVAC dam allows the air handler to be isolated from the attics insulation, while also created a work space for your unit in the future.
the final step was blowing in the new layer of Cellulose Insulation. our machines blow in up to 16in of cellulose to comply with the Maryland code of R49. The creates a new barrier between the attic of your home and the living space, keeping external air temperatures in your attic, while the conditioned air remains where it belongs, in your home.
The homeowner has noticed an immediate difference in the comfort of his home, while also noticing a more reasonable energy bill each month.
