This homeowner switched out their old insulation to add blown-in cellulose insulation.
This customer had a BGE Quick Home Energy Check Up (QHEC), where they told her that investing in air sealing and insulation for her attic would save her a lot with her utility bills. She searched BGE's website to find a trustworthy company to do this and found us.
We were able to make this home much more energy efficient through a few different measures. We air sealed the attic (with caulk, spray foam, and foam board), blew in cellulose insulation, and installed an attic fan.
This homeowner was experiencing drafts and hot spots in their home in the spring. They also previously had insulation within the attic. Our Home Comfort Specialist went out to do some infrared imaging and a blower door test, which helps to see where the problem areas are within the home. Our Home Comfort Specialist then recommended blown-in cellulose insulation compared to the loose fill fiberglass that was currently in their attic. cellulose insulation is not only environmentally friendlier than fiberglass insulation it also deters pest and does not support any fungal growth if moisture ever gets into your attic. Cellulose insulation also reduces air flow resulting in warmer rooms in the winter and cooler rooms in the summer.
The homeowner is now experiencing fewer drafts, less hot spots, and is even saving money on their utility bill! The homeowner is so much more comfortable and so happy with the work Complete Home Solutions did on their home!
This home in Prince Frederick, MD was experiencing drafty rooms and the homeowner knew that their current insulation might be old and may need to be replaced. The homeowner contacted Complete Home Solutions to have a home energy audit performed to see what other problem areas might exist besides the attic insulation. Our Home Comfort Specialist conducted multiple tests on the home and found that the attic wasn't properly sealed and the current insulation wasn't doing its job (it was uneven and in clumps and air was still leaking through unsealed holes from the downstairs through the attic). The homeowners chose to have the attic air sealed preventing unwanted air and hot or cold temperatures in through the attic. After everything was air sealed, our crew then blew in TruSoft Cellulose Insulation appropriate for this temperature zone.
After the work was completed the homeowner was very satisfied and felt an immediate impact and no longer suffered from drafty rooms!
This customers basement wall was uninsulated when we arrived, which can result in a very cold and uncomfortable basement. This is because the bricks are not an effective barrier, air easily flows through these block walls. Block walls are hollow, have a big honeycomb of airspace inside them and can be very porous. Any type of boiler, furnace, water heater or ducts in the basement are wasting the heat that comes off them instead of warmer the room or the floors above it. To fix these issues we installed a SilverGlo foam board which reduces heat flow, stop airflow through the walls, and provide a better seal from your basement walls to the outside of your house. In result the basement can be cooled or heated more effectively while using less energy, all of these things mean a more comfortable home!
