Attic With Old BATT Insulation
This is what the attic looked like in the beginning. There is no air sealing, and the insulation (the gray, dirt looking stuff) is extremely old and deteriorated (essentially useless). There is nothing here protecting this homeowner's warm air from escaping.
Unprotected Duct Work in Attic
On top of having no insulation, the HVAC duct work in the attic was left completely exposed. We also found that there were multiple leaks in the duct system while performing our inspection. The combination of these two things has resulted in the loss of a lot of energy and heat for the homeowner.
Air Sealing in the Attic
We used our spray foam to air seal and insulate the duct work. This will prevent any future leaks and guards the ducts against the elements. We also air sealed any cavities or penetrations in the attic using caulk (the orange line in the picture).
Cellulose Insulation Blown In
Our final step was to install our blown in cellulose insulation. This is a great insulation that will work together with the air sealing to form a thermal barrier and keep the home warm.
