This June, Complete Home Solutions is participating in National Healthy Homes Month.
In the U.S. today, people spend close to 90% of their time indoors. The first ever National Healthy Homes Month 2016 (NHHM), created by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, is an outreach campaign designed to help people connect the dots between their health and their home. This year's overarching theme "Everyone Deserves a Safe and Healthy Home", was chosen to create awareness of what it means to have a healthy home by educating families of potential health hazards in a home, and to empower people to make change in order to create the healthiest home possible for their family.
Currently, millions of U.S. homes have moderate to severe housing problems, including water leaks and intrusion; mold; poor indoor air quality; and high radon gas levels. These conditions are associated with a wide range of health issues, including unintentional injuries, respiratory illnesses like asthma and radon-induced lung cancer.
As a part of National Healthy Homes Month, we want to help improve our community's indoor air quality, home comfort, and overall energy efficiency. By doing so, we want everyone to be aware of a few common risks you may be facing without knowledge.
- Indoor air can be 2 to 10 times more polluted than outdoor air!
- 3,000 cases of cancer are caused by exposure to indoor air pollutants every year.
- 50% of all illnesses are caused or aggravated by polluted indoor air.
- 90% of colds and flus are caught indoors.
- The following products and devices that we use everyday emit harmful pollutants. These include:
-Paints and lacquers
-Paint Strippers
-Cleaning Supplies
-Office Equipment
-Building Materials
-Carbonless Copy Paper
-Permanent Markers
