Before We Got Started
This attic had virtually no insulation along with several uncovered recessed lights. This is a bad combination for keeping conditioned air in.
Air Sealing and Baffles
Our Technicians first step is to air seal any cracks in the attic floor, they also install baffles on the eaves. The baffles serve 2 main purposes in the attic. 1. They allow the proper air ventilation into the attic, and 2. They allow our crew to blow in an appropriate amount of Cellulose insulation into every corner of the attic.
Air Sealing the Recessed Lights
Recessed lights are a key spot to pay attention to when air sealing an attic. We cover the lights to avoid the Cellulose insulation laying directly on the warm lights. We then spray foam around the over to create a sealed barrier.
Blown in Cellulose
The final step of this attic project is blowing in 16 inches of new cellulose insulation.
Finished Result
Here is a final picture of the same air vent you saw in the first picture. I think it speaks for itself the difference this homeowner will feel with all the improvements made.
