Air Sealing in the Attic
One of the major ways that we treat an attic is by air sealing any cavities or openings that could be allowing for air leakage. In this picture we used caulking (the orange lines) to seal up those areas.
Cellulose Insulation in the Attic
After air sealing, the next step is to make sure that you have good, dense insulation in your attic. We applied a closed-cell cellulose insulation for this home. Together with the air sealing, this will create a great thermal barrier for the attic.
Insulate the Attic Hatch
The opening of the attic itself is also a big area that the house can lose air and energy through. We fixed this by applying polysio foam board to the hatch door.
Weather Stripping Ducts
One other area that you can lose a lot of air through is your ducts. If they aren't properly weather stripped then there is a big possibility that air is leaking right out instead of going where you want it to.
