Remember to Clean and Change Your Air Filters
Air Filters Should be Changed Monthly!
July 6, 2018
During the month of July and National Air Conditioning Air Apperciation Days, Complete Home Solutions wants you to be aware of the importance of cleaning and maintaining your air conditioner. Nobody wants to worry about their A/C Unit dying on them when it's 95 degrees out. We know you might not be certified in inspecting and serving your own A/C Unit but it's recommended that you change your air filter at least once a month.
The most important maintanance task will ensure the efficency of your air conditioner is to rountinely reaplce or clean its filter. Clogged, dirty filters block normal airflow and reduce a system's efficiency significantly. With normal airflow obsturcted, air that bypasses the filter may carry dirt directly into the evaporator coil and impair the coil's heat-absorbing capacity. Replacing a dirty, clogged filter with a clean one can lower your air conditioner's energy consumption by 5% to 15%.
For central air conditioners, filters are generally located somewhere along the return duct's length. Common filter locations are in walls, ceilings, furnaces, or in the air conditioners itself. Room air conditioners have a filter mounted in the grill tha faces into the room.
Some types of filters are reusable; others must be replaced. They are available in a variety of types and efficiencies. Clean or replace your air conditioning system's filter or filters every month during the cooling season. Filters may need more frequent attention if the air conditioner is in cnstant use, is subjected to dusty conditions, or you have fur-bearing pets in the house.
Change your filter. Your air conditioner filter should be changed each month. A filter that I clogged with dirt will make your air conditioner run poorly. It will also run up your electric bill.
Clean your filter. In between the time you change your filter, you can clean it to keep it working efficiently. Use a vacuum attachment to vacuum out excess dirt, or take it outside and shake it off.
Your Questions...
Why is my summer electric bill so high?
There are several reasons your AC system is costing you, but the system itself is not to blame.
If your attic is improper insulation and is not sealed properly, your cool, expansive air is leaving your home and quickly going outside. When this air leaves, hot air has to fill its spot, making your thermostat go up and your air conditioner to run again. The extra electricity being used to run the AC constantly is the reason behind your high electricity bills. Air conditioners are expensive to begin with, and the cool, crisp air they produce is what keeps our families cool in the summer. Without air conditioning hot spells and heat waves become dangerous to our health.
