July Serves as Air Conditioning Appreciation Days!
July 1, 2018
This July, Complete Home Solutions is participating in Air Conditioning Appreciation Days! This month gives our community the opportunity to take a step back and appreciate what Air Conditioning Systems do for our homes and the people inside. Our AC unites are often overlooked and underappreciated, leading to failure, neglect and lack of efficiency. This July, Complete Home Solutions aims to inform you on how to keep your AC System running smoothly and reminding you on why it's so important!
Air conditioning, invented in 1932, has become a necessity of life for those who can afford it. Heat stroke, heat rash, heat edema, heat cramps, dehydration, and heat exhaustion are all illnesses due to exposure to prolonged excessive heat and humidity. Heat related deaths happen more than all other serious weather phenomenon such as hurricanes, tornadoes and lightning.
Lack of air conditioning during hot spells and heat waves is physically dangerous. Older adults, very young children, and those who are sick or overweight are at a higher risk for heat-related illness. According to the Agency for Health Care Research and Quality, about 6,200 Americans are hospitalized each summer due to complications from excessive heat.
An aspect of keeping your home cool that most people forget about is your homes' ability to actually maintain the cool air inside. The ability to keep the cool air inside and the hot, humid air outside, is difficult when your home is not properly sealed. When your home has air leaks in the attic, cool air escapes. The air that is lost needs to be replaced. Replacement air comes in the form of hot, humid, dirty outside air that then comes in though the bottom level of our home. Even if you have a high efficiency, well running Ac unit, your home still may not be properly air conditioned.

Here are some ways you can stay cool, appreciate our air conditioner and give it a long shelf life:
- Do your air conditioner a favor and change the air filter every month. If you have central air, have it serviced every year. It will last longer and more efficiently.
- Turn your air conditioner down when you'll be gone for a few hours. That means, set it at 80 degrees while you are gone. Once you return, set it at 78 degrees or lower.
- Turn off lights in rooms you aren't using. Light generate heat and will cause our air conditioner to work harder.
- Keep your blinds or shades down so the sun doesn't heat up your room.
- Do not use your clothes dyer at the same time as your air conditioner. The dryer will produce excess heat.
- Cooking in the oven and suing air conditioning is counter-productive when it's hot outside. Save cooking for later in the day.
- Naturally, keep windows and doors closed while running your air conditioning. If you are too cold, don't open something to 'even out' the temperature. Turn the conditioner down!
