Insulation is a GREAT Investment
Remodeling Magazine just wrote an article this year that we feel is worth talking about. They hit a big point that we’ve been trying to get across to homeowners for years. Attic insulation is worth the investment.
This particular article, Better Times, Higher Returns, discusses the various remodeling projects that have proved to add value to a home in regard to dollar return. In their reporting, they referred to three main numbers: Job Cost, Value at Sale, and Cost Recouped. They had about thirty jobs on their list and only one reported a Cost Recouped above 100%. That job was – you guessed it – attic insulation.
Attic insulation was only just added to Remodeling’s list last year (2016) and already topped it. The average Cost Recouped for all other projects they tracked was 64.2%. Attic insulation produced a Cost Recouped of 116.9%. That’s a 52.7% difference! This means that for every $100 that you invest into the insulation, you will get back $116.90 (on a national average).
This kind of return topped a lot of those “glamorous” projects that homeowners often times get hooked up on: kitchen remodeling, bathroom remodeling, master suite addition, etc. You may not to be able to see your attic, but it’s an important part of your house’s value. It looks like insulation is indeed an “invisible asset.” Take advantage of that!
So, if you’re looking at this and you’re thinking about how that 116.9% return seems like a pretty good investment, your next step might be to figure out how to get it done.
