"Rule Your Attic" is Back!

The Rule Your Attic campaign is back on! We took a short hiatus there for the holidays, but we are ready to talk insulation again. Energy star launched this campaign back in October to help raise awareness for homeowners about the energy efficiency of their homes. One of the biggest places that you may be losing energy in your home is…you guessed it, your attic!

Here are 4 signs that YOUR home is under insulated:

1. Uneven Temperatures. If you feel like every room needs its own personal thermostat because of the drastic change in temperature, you probably need some more insulation.
2. High Energy Bill. If you notice that your energy bill is getting way out of control – especially in the winter and summer months – you probably need some more insulation.
3. Discolored Insulation. If you peek inside your attic and you notice that your current insulation has grey, black, and/or brown spots, then that means too much air is leaking out through your attic – you probably need more insulation (and to replace what’s up there).
4. Energy Star Standards. Climb up into your attic with a ruler and see what your insulation measure up to. The Department of Energy recommends that your insulation be around 15 inches. If you go up there and you only have 3 inches or so, you definitely need more insulation.
