National Healthy Homes Month - Keep It Clean, Keep It Safe
For the third week of National Healthy Homes Month, we are focusing on how to Keep It Clean and Keep It Safe.
Some cleaning habits and protection measures are important for the health of the entire home !
Keep it Clean
Nobody likes living in a dirty and messy home. Many homeowners take pride in the appearance of their home, tending to keep their homes clean and in great shape. However, some simply just can't find the time to clean due to work or other obligations. Find the time to take a few minutes out of your day to tidy up your home, especially the kitchen. Clean homes help reduce pest infestations and exposure to contaminants. Pests and unwelcomed critters are easily avoidable by setting aside a designated time every week to clean up your home.
Keep it Safe
Surprisingly, the majority of injuries among children occur in the home. Falls are the most frequent cause of residential injuries to children, followed by injuries from objects in the home, burns, and poisonings. All of these potential injuries can by avoided by creating some ground rules and safety precautions in the home. To avoid falls, make sure children pick up and put away their toys and aren't leaving them scattered throughout the floor and hallways. To avoid burns, educate family members about keeping any out out for a hot stovetop especially when it is on or cooling down. Take the extra minute to explain to family members that "caution is key", to always look where they are going and to not be afraid to ask for help.
