Go Green This St. Patrick's Day
This Saint Patrick's Day is going to be filled with green and fun. Think green in the way of recycling and becoming more energy efficient.
Try some of these tips and see what works for you this St. Patrick's Day.
- Switch to Energy Star rated light bulbs, not only do they last up to 10x longer than a standard light bulb but they also use 75% less energy
-Recycle! This one may be simple but it may often slip your mind.
- Consider biking or walking if the commute isn't too far instead of wasting gas by driving. And if you have to drive consider carpooling to limit the amount of gas that is being used by others.
-When running errands try to bring your own bag instead of using paper or plastic. Reusable bags are a great way to keep unnecessary plastic out of the landfill. If you forget your bags or don't have reusable bags, try to reuse your plastic bags as a trash bag for your car.
- Turn off your electronics and lights. Plug all of your tv, dvd player, laptop devices, etc, into a UL-certified powerstrip. This will turn off all your electronics to keep them from using unecessary energy while on standby.
-Buy reusable batteries to keep from throwing away batteries.
- Schedule your errands back-to-back. This will keep you from having to go out every day of the week. If you plan ahead and make a list, you can get all your errands done in one trip and conserve energy and resources!
-Start a compost pile with your leftover apple cores, carrot tops, egg shells and more. You can make a compost pile to create fresh dirt to fertilize your garden with.
These are just some simple starter ideas to get you thinking more green this St. Patrick's Day!
